Internet safety and responsible use

Before using the social media or Internet, we must know how to use them responsible. People should know who are friending on media for their safety.

You may want to access the Funmoods' Online Safety videos about friending and facebook which are both educative and funny to watch:

We believe that privacy is really important because it gives them the right to keep personal data safe. Something that worries us on social media is digital footprints.

While exploring this topic we came across a motion infographic that presents what we and other people post on our social media activities and how we can get to the bottom of our lives, if we are not careful.

Our opinion is that pupils need to know what they post on social media and equally teachers should know what they post. Also pupils should know the dangers of social media and how to avoid them for their safety. People should not give false information about themselves.

Challenges to Adoption

A school social media policy is a set of guidelines concerning how the students use the social media, what they may or may not publish when they are in school or they use school inetrnet.

Social media are being used more and more in school and this requires some rules in order things to work properly.

A school social media policy is necessary for every school that uses internet and more specific the social media.

Teachers who use social media in classroom along with the headmaster should form a team that would be responsible for creating one.

It is very important to have a social media policy at schools.

When using social media in school:

  • Speak appropriate
  • Be authentic
  • Understand the meaning of society
  • Respect the others
  • Protect yourself

Social media can be used in education so that students can communicate with each other and with the teachers. Teachers can use them in order to give assignments or additional informations to students. In addition schools can reach out to parents and keep them up-to-date. And of course both teachers and students can use them for the needs of a european project like Comenius.

All the teachers, the parents and the students should be informed about this positive use.

We would organise informative campaigns. We would use posters and open discussions about the subject, where teachers, parents and students would be invited .

The main challenge is to overcome the fears around the social media. Parents and teachers are worried about bullying, about neglecting making the homeworks for the sake of online gaming and many other things.
